When Life Gets Full, Put Your Oxygen Mask On First

How 8 meetings, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and intentional self-care saved my sanity this week

Hey there Visionaries!

This week tried to eat me alive.

8 meetings in one day.

A podcast.

Four 1-on-1s with cool entrepreneurs.

A training session for new AI software.

And then my second Brazilian jiu-jitsu class at 6pm.

Oh, and this weekend?

I'm helping process the meat birds we’ve been raising with my mutual aid group.

Then heading straight to DJ a Halloween barn party.

From farm to turntables—that's the wild, beautiful life we've built out here.

But here's what saved me from complete burnout:

I put my oxygen mask on first.

Why You Should Care:

  • Creative AI Sorcery: Watch me turn a 3D color wizard into a digital Picasso on steroids.

  • AutomaSelf-Care Isn't Selfish: When you take care of yourself first, you show up better for everyone else.

  • Time Block Your Values: If you don't schedule time for what matters, work will fill every crack.

  • Facing Fear Head-On: Starting something new at 45 proves that growth never stops.

Put Your Oxygen Mask On First

Let me be real with you.

Work has a way of filling in the cracks—like water finding every leak in a dam.

If you don’t schedule time to recharge, you end up lightheaded. Burnt out. Useless to others.

I learned this (again) the hard way this week.

By meeting number 8, I could feel it: the mental fog creeping in. The edge of overwhelm.

But past Joshua was smart: I’d already scheduled a date night with my wife on Tuesday and somatic session with my new friend Daniel and game night with the kiddo.

Because on the merry-go-round of life, things fly by—including your connection with your partner.

Wife & I got away. We caught up. We remembered why we’re in this together.

Beyond The Matrix: Strategy + Freedom

Even with the full plate, I carved out time for a 2-hour financial strategy call for Beyond The Matrix participants.

We talked about setting up life and business for true financial freedom:

  • Foundations for entrepreneurs

  • Structuring life and business

  • Planning for financial independence

It was deep, rich, and real—the kind of work that fills my cup.

Starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Facing the Fear Voice

This was my birthday gift to myself.

I said last summer: "I'm doing this winter."

Now here we are. I tagged a friend, and we showed up.

On the drive down, the fear voice kicked in:

"You don’t have time."

"You’re not good enough."

"What if you get hurt?"

What if, what if, what if.

I laughed. That voice felt so foreign to who I am now.

And then it went away.

By the end of class? I was having a blast. Total body reset.

BJJ flipped my brain from high-level strategy mode to pure in body presence.

Second class was last night. Still stoked.

This is self-care. This is sanity.

Tech Corner: AI-Generated Music Is a DJ’s Dream

Speaking of flips—I’m DJing a Halloween barn party this weekend. (Hit me up if local)

And slipping in some AI-generated remixes of nostalgic covers.

Custom tracks. Made for this dance floor. This moment.

Hyper-personalized creativity is here. And it’s only getting wilder.

Tell me what you think of it, my friends are torn. As a dj I LOVE it.

Also this week OpenAI had a livestream and dropped a roadmap:

  • AI research interns by 2026

  • Fully automated AI research by 2028

That means AI teaching itself.

And from there? Exponential growth.

We’ll see. But the speed is staggering.

No Nut November: Rewriting the Script

I’m joining my buddy Tyson’s No Nut November challenge.

Posted about it this week on Facebook.

I’ve been off adult content for a decade, and looking back…

It shaped how I saw sexuality, stress, and dopamine.

This challenge? It’s not about restriction. It’s about recalibration.

Checking in with yourself.

Building stamina—not just physical, but emotional and mental.

Reply back if your interested, starting tonight.

Today’s Takeaways:

  • Oxygen Mask First: Self-care isn’t optional if you want to serve others well.

  • Face the Fear Voice: Laugh at it—and start anyway.

  • Time Block Your Values: Schedule your sanity. Let work fill what’s left.

  • AI Is Getting Wild: Creativity and capability are accelerating fast.

Alright, that’s a wrap for this week.

Remember: You can’t pour from an empty cup.

So fill yours first.

Stay grounded and free,
