Leading the Pod
How a men's retreat near Port Townsend pulled me out of the office and into the deep end.

Freedom Builders, fire up the engines.
By the time you read this, my phone is off and I'm somewhere in the woods near Port Townsend.
Manifest Gathering. Second year running. A few hundred men, a stretch of forest, and five days of going where most people never let themselves go.
This year is different, though. This year I'm a pod leader.
Why You Should Care
Rest comes first: You can't pour into anything from empty. The unplug is the work, not the reward.
Leading changes you: Holding space for other men forces a sharper clarity than just showing up for yourself.
Presence is the real return: The rare hours with family and the quiet hours in the woods pay back more than any grind.
150 Men and a Pod to Lead
Manifest is hard to explain to anyone who hasn't stood in it.
Picture a diverse group of men, gathered in the woods. Workshops to choose from every day. Real food. Conversation that quickly past the small talk. Confrontation when it's earned. And a whole lot of fun through it.
Feels like an Ewok village with indigenous culture woven in. Time spent sitting with elders.

I'm no stranger to men's work. But getting asked to be a pod leader is different.
A pod is a small group of men. My job is to help them internalize and process whatever surfaces over the three days. Hold the container. Ask the harder question. Honored to say yes.
It also means leaving my family longer than I like. That part stings.
But this is the work it takes to check in with myself, push my edges, and come back with clarity and a little more wisdom to bring home.
Rest Before You Lead
Here's the part that made the retreat possible.
The week before, I wasn't grinding. I was off grid with my family at Soap Lake.
Food and music festival. We loaded the campervan, left the work behind, and just unwound together.
I got to DJ a packed cafe in a small town. Spinning a room like that is its own kind of good time.

Then the rare part. No responsibilities. I sat in the grass with good food, good friends, good music, and my lady next to me.
Running two businesses and raising a family, those moments are scarce. So thank you, Soul Blake.
Here's the move, said plain. You cannot lead a pod, a business, or a family from a drained tank.
Rest is not what you earn after the work. It's what makes the work possible. Fill up first. Then go deep.
From the Other Side of My World: Cowork Cohort
Quick note from the AI side of things. We just wrapped week two of the Claude Cowork cohort.
Small group, big shift. We're moving people from treating AI like a chatbot to running it like a coworker. This week we built a local AI memory system that you actually own.
Same theme as everything else here. Own the thing. Don't rent it.
Grab the The AI Memory System They Can't Hold Hostage to get started.
Stay in the Loop: The Inner Circle
If you want to keep up between issues, this is the door.
The Inner Circle is where I drop the daily signal. The best AI headlines, VIP offer access, freebies, my take on where things are heading, and the tools worth watching, so you can protect your freedom and privacy while the world moves at breakneck speed.
Today's Takeaways
Fill the tank first: You can't lead from empty. Rest is the setup, not the prize.
Guard your time on purpose: Always-on takes every hour you don't claim back.
Own your tools: A local AI memory you control beats a rented chatbot every time.
Before I go, one ask. What did you think of this one?
Which part hit, and what do you want more of? Hit reply and tell me.
One word counts. One sentence counts.
I read every reply that comes in, every week, and it means more than you know.
The best stuff here starts with you.
Go fill your tank, then go build.
