Gratitude Meets a Knife
Lessons from turkey comas and lamb processing
6min Read | Watch | Listen
Hey there, Visionary Navigators,
Just survived three Thanksgiving dinners in four days.
My birthday landed right before Turkey Day. Friends and family decided to go all out. Worth every food coma nap.
Breaking bread with people who actually get you beats everything. No fake conversations. No surface-level garbage. Just connection, laughter, and ridiculous amounts of home made food.
Week didn't slow down after that though.
Why You Should Give All the Cares:
The Wisdom Tooth Conspiracy: Your kid's jaw is too small and nobody's telling you why
Sheep Processing Reality: Taking a life to feed your family weighs different than you think
Truth-Finding Tools: Stop getting played by media manipulation
The Wisdom Tooth Scam Nobody Talks About
Drove 2.5 hours yesterday to take my daughter to a dentist.
Not your standard drill-and-fill setup.
We went to a holistic specialist who looks at root causes. Modern medicine wants to cut first, ask later. Chemical fixes. Surgery. Treat symptoms, ignore problems.
My family avoids that path whenever possible.
Getting her fitted for an ALF device. No surgery. No cutting. Nothing invasive. Small metal appliance sits in her mouth and does what should've happened naturally.
ALF = Advanced Lightwire Functional appliance.
It is a thin, flexible, stainless-steel wire framework that sits along the inside surfaces of the teeth (the tongue side), supported by a few small clasps around molars.
Nobody tells you this about wisdom teeth.
Humans have 32 teeth total. Wisdom teeth included. In a properly developed jaw, they all fit.

The wisdom tooth extraction industry exists because we stopped developing jaws properly
Modern kids rarely get that development. Jaws grow too small. Soft food. Weak chewing. Mouth-breathing from congestion. Low tongue posture. Screen time hunching. Midline restrictions.
All this collapses the arches before permanent teeth even show up.
Narrow palates. Crowded teeth. Back-fallen jaw with zero room for wisdom teeth.
Conventional orthodontics arrives late. Works inside an already undersized arch. Treats crowding like genetic destiny instead of developmental failure.
No room? Extract. Pull premolars. Yank wisdom teeth. Call it standard care.
The system normalized these extractions as routine and profitable. Meanwhile, early airway-focused approaches could grow a child's jaw correctly, prevent crowding, improve breathing, and let all 32 teeth fit properly.
Look for an airway-centric pediatric dentist, functional orthodontist, or someone trained in ALF, Myobrace, or myofunctional therapy if you want to explore this for your kid.
They focus on jaw growth, breathing, and proper development. Not waiting for problems then pulling teeth.
When Gratitude Meets a Knife
Sheep processing day happened this weekend.
Five months of helping care for these lambs. Time came to bring them into our food system.

This was intense.
My family paid for one lamb we'd been shepherding on my buddy's property. Each week I rotated the grazing zones. Watched them grow. Cared for them.
Then I took a knife and ended that lamb's life.
Only works because of community. Friends had the land. They got the sheep. We helped deliver them. Many hands made this possible. One family doing this alone? Nearly impossible.
Led my lamb around the barn so the herd couldn't see. Three people held the sheep down. My job was cutting arteries, helping it bleed out.
Didn't realize how much work it takes. Keeping blood vessels from clotting. Someone has to massage the wound to pulse blood out or it stops and prolongs death.
Took 3 to 5 minutes.
Several women in our group sang songs during the transition.
That singing made all the difference.
Talked with a buddy afterward. Easy to go numb during this. Harden your heart. Could feel it starting already.
After finishing with the knife, I felt rigid. Hard. Armored up. "Do this no matter what" energy.
But holding the animal, waiting for blood to drain, I recognized needing to soften.
Those women singing? Reminded me how to release into the moment.
Got teary. Big emotions. Weight of taking life to feed my family. Gratitude for the sacrifice.
Hit me then.
Same lesson I'm working on with my partner. Learning not to stay hard and closed off. Softening into communication and connection.
Same mechanic. Different context.
Staying aware of when I'm rigid versus open. Choosing to soften into difficult moments instead of bracing against them.
After, we carried the sheep to hang it. Skinned it. Gutted it.

Surprising how little you get from a fluffy sheep
Day one salted the hide to preserve it. Bagged the bodies to finish cutting tomorrow.
Beautiful doing this in community.
Kids ran around. Didn't participate much because December cold. But there for opening circle. Knew what we were doing.
They'll know when it's on the dinner table where this food came from.
Extremely valuable lesson.

Tech Corner: Good news for the consumer
Sam Altman just announced code red over Google's AI advancement. Said they needed to fast-track the secret "Garlic" model. Expect serious new ChatGPT features this month.
Deepseek launched V3.2. Basically rivals open-sourced ChatGPT 5.0. Good for people. Just gotta get it off China servers.
AI music situation? Completely out of control.
That AI country track hitting number one on Billboard? Written by Abraham Abushmais. Former collaborator who co-wrote tracks on Blanko Brown's 2019 album.
Suno generates 7 million songs daily. Enough to recreate Spotify's entire catalog every two weeks.
Music industry just did a complete 180 on AI Music. Nobody's talking about what that means for creators. Full breakdown here
