AI Saves the Day: $16,000 Scam Caught Red-Handed

Wild story from this week that'll make your jaw drop.

Family friend - 80 years old, brilliant guy who wrote an amazing memoir about his late wife - almost got taken for $16,000 by scammers offering to publish his book.

These fraudsters had their game down:

Started small, built trust, did some initial work, then BAM - hit him with the big ask for "Phase 2."

Luckily, his bank flagged the transaction.

When he told me over dinner, I immediately fired up ChatGPT's o3 model.

Here's how AI caught them:

• False Identity Detection: They claimed to represent "Barnes & Noble Self-Publish" - which doesn't exist. The real service is Barnes & Noble Press and it's completely free.

• Business Registration Fraud: Said they were California-based but had zero legitimate registration anywhere.

• AI-Generated Communication: When I ran their emails through detectors, they came back 85% AI-written. Classic ChatGPT patterns - over-polite padding, bullet-point mirroring, random capitalization switches.

• Financial Red Flags: Bank had already flagged them for fraudulent activity.

• Impossible Promises: 100% royalties, guaranteed bestseller status, unrealistic timelines - all without proof of previous success.

We caught them before they could run with his money.

The scary part? AI is making these scams way more sophisticated.

Speaking of AI revolution - this week we made serious progress on an AI-generated movie project that's got me fired up.

ChatGPT o3-Pro Ignites Minds in Fire Engineering

The latest ChatGPT model o3Pro finally just dropped. It’s designed to "think longer," boosting reliability and performance, can also use tools like web search and data analysis, but is slower… much slower.

With it I had another mind-blowing AI moment this week helping my uncle with his fire alarm engineering business.

The moment ChatGPT o3-pro analyzed his fire alarm project and called out "2.49 volts Class B" for his highest voltage drop - matching his calculations exactly - you should've seen his face.

"Holy crap, dude!" was his exact reaction.

The AI didn't just understand his drawings - it understood his business:
