🔵 Construct Guide: Making AI Work For You PART 2
Your ChatGPT doesn't suck—your prompts might though
Estimated Read Time: 6min
TL;DR
Prompting isn't rocket science—it's just talking clearly
The RISEN framework makes your prompts hit every time
Hey AI enthusiast!
Remember when you'd try explaining something to someone and they'd give you that blank stare like you were speaking alien?
That's exactly what's happening when you type "write me a blog post" into ChatGPT and wonder why it spits out generic garbage.
The Framework That Changed My AI Game
I was taught the RISEN framework by my AI mentor Kyle Balmer. I've done several coaching calls with him and even got certified to teach his workshops with his frameworks.
This method has served me well—from quick and dirty instructions to full-scale corporate prompt engineering needed for high-level repetitive outcomes. When you need reliable, consistent results, it's worth taking the time to work through this framework.
Straight Shot Truth: It's Not the AI, It's How You're Asking
When I first started using ChatGPT with my marketing clients, I was throwing basic prompts at it like "write email about product launch" and getting back bland, useless text that I wouldn't send to my worst enemy.
I was about to write the whole thing off as overhyped tech trash.
Then I stumbled into a technique that changed everything. Instead of asking it to "write an email," I told it to "act as a direct response copywriter who specializes in product launches for tech companies."
The difference was night and day.
I wasn't talking to a different AI—I was just talking to the same one differently.
The RISEN Framework: Your Prompt Cheat Code
Here's the framework that's saved my ass countless times (and made my clients think I'm an AI wizard):
R = Role
Tell the AI exactly who to be. Not just "writer" but "SEO content writer who specializes in the fitness industry and writes with a conversational tone."
Examples:
"Act as a New York Times reporter"
"Act as a buzzfeed writer"
"Act as a blog writer for Edge Home Finance in Bellingham, Washington"
I = Instructions
What do you want it to do? Be specific about format, length, and purpose.
Example: "Write a blog article about first-time home buyer guides" vs. "Create a 1,200-word guide with 5 sections, including actionable steps and a FAQ"
S = Steps
Break the task into clear stages. Instead of "write me an annual report," try:
First, analyze the previous three annual reports
Create a checklist of required components
Draft the executive summary
Compile financial highlights
E = End Goal
Show the AI what success looks like. Give examples or describe the outcome in detail.
Example: "This blog should position us as thought leaders among Fortune 500 CTOs and be highly shareable on LinkedIn."
N = Narrowing
Fine-tune with specific constraints.
Example: "Use a formal, professional tone. Avoid paragraphs longer than 5 sentences. Include no more than 3 actionable steps."
From Theory to Mind-Blowing Reality
I timed myself last week: in just TWO HOURS, I created:

All from the same base prompts, just tweaking them as needed.
If you want those, they are in my course Year-Round Content Roadmap.
This isn't about being lazy—it's about being smart with your time.
When NOT to Use Fancy Prompting
For quick, simple tasks? Just talk normally.
"Hey ChatGPT, what's the capital of Portugal?" doesn't need a framework.

👉 Tomorrow, I'll share my favorite prompt methodologies—including the "ask me" trick that produces results so good it feels like cheating.
